Manley: to be more like Christ

Monday, August 6, 2018
Meditation:
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
    —Romans 8:29 (NIV)
Quotation:
This is our great need, to be more like Christ, that His likeness may be seen in our lives; and this is just what is promised to us as we yield ourselves in full surrender to the working of His Spirit. Then, as we draw nearer to Christ, we shall be drawn nearer to His people; and in our search for unity with the members we shall be drawn closer to the Head.

Quiet time reflection:
Lord, I long to be more like you. Implant in me the love You have for your people.

I pray all God's repentant children in Christ will soon together say 'amen' to this prayer with fervent love from the heart of every one of us believers for one another, "Lord, I long to be more like you. Implant in me the love You have for your people." Truly, the self-sacrificial love of One Good Shepherd, for all the sheep who believe in the name of Jesus for repentance and forgiveness of sins, is both the One Spirit in which both Jesus and our Father are one, and is also the same One Spirit into which every member of the body of Christ is drawn to receive in the name of Jesus, now in this life, the glory that God gave Jesus in this life, that Jesus then gave to us repentant believers, to show the world the same gospel, good news that God sent Jesus to pay God's own blood in this life in order to give to all who will choose to receive it, eternal life in His One Spirit starting now in this life, simply because we repent of our sins when He shows them to us in His word in the Bible by which He sanctifies and sets us apart from the sins of the world, and as He continually calls to our memory the truth in His word, we always turn to obey Him, knowing and rejoicing continually for His mercy by which He gives His Spirit to live in us now, to lead us ever further into all truth in Jesus forever.
“14 "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.” (Joh 10:14-16 NIV)
“27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no-one can snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no-one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one."” (Joh 10:27-30 NIV)
“I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name—the name you gave me—so that they may be one as we are one.” (Joh 17:11 NIV)
“46 He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” (Lu 24:46-47 NIV)
“20 ¶ "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: 23 I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” (Joh 17:20-23 NIV)
“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” (Joh 17:17 NIV)
