Brunner: as fire

Sunday, June 9, 2019
Feast of Columba, Abbot of Iona, Missionary, 597
Commemoration of Ephrem of Syria, Deacon, Hymnographer, Teacher, 373
They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
    —Acts 2:3-4 (NIV)
The Church exists by mission, just as a fire exists by burning. Where there is no mission, there is no Church.

Lord, You have sent Your people to the nations.
